About Me

My name is Landyn Mahoney and I am currently a freshman at the Univeristy of Nebraska-Lincoln studying journalism. I am a born and raised Lincoln, Nebraska native and have lived here my whole life. Naturally, I'm also a huge husker football fan. I was fortunate enough to attend some great games this past season but am definitely hoping this next year will be better. I have two amazing parents who are both educators and a little sister named Remi who will be starting middle school next year! So far I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the university and am looking forward to the coming years.

Career Goals

When I first started here at the university I really only had the faintest idea of what I wanted to do with my life. At this point in time, I still kind of don't but have definitely been able to come up with some ideas as I've continued to learn and grow. Currently I am pursuing a minor in religious studies, Tibetan Buddhism to be more specific, that I would love to be able to pair it in some way with my journalism major. In the most ideal scenario I think it would involve research, writing, and travel which are all things I'm passionate about. I'm very eager to learn more about the religion and definitely aspire to research and share my findings. Another idea I had, which is an ideal as well, would to be some sort of music journalist. I am deeply passionate about music and could see myself finding joy in a career along those lines.

Hobbies

When I am not in class or working on homework most of my time gets taken up by guitar. I started playing guitar when I was around 14 years old but never took it too seriously until my senior year of highschool. I love music and everything involved so I often try my luck at writing songs. Most of the time I write just for me but sometimes my roomate and I will do little song writing exercises to see what we can pump out in a 10-15 minute stretch. Other than guitar I really enjoy spending time with friends and family as much as possible. I also really like to read, generally only books about Buddhism although I did finish the Alchemist a while back which turned out to be one of my favorite books so far. I really enjoy movies as well, my current favorite and the one I watched most recently has to be The Holdovers because it reminded me a lot of The Dead Poets Society.
